SF1 is a transcriptional activator that essential for sexual differentiation and formation of the primary steroidogenic tissues. It also activated by the phosphorylation of NR5A1 by HIPK3 leading to increased steroidogenic gene expression upon cAMP signalling pathway stimulation. SF1 is highly expressed in the adrenal cortex, ovary, testis, spleen. SF1 is generally used for diagnosis of sex cord-stromal tumours and differential diagnosis of adrenocortical adenoma and pheochromocytoma. SF1 is also known as NR5A1, AD4BP, ELP, FTZ1, FTZF1, POF7, SF1, SPGF8, SRXY3, hSF1, nuclear receptor subfamily 5 group A member 1, SRXX4, Steroidogenic Factor 1, Steroid Hormone Receptor Ad4BP, Fushi Tarazu Factor Homolog 1, STF-1, Nuclear Receptor Subfamily 5, Group A, Member 1, Steroidogenic Factor 1 Nuclear Receptor, Adrenal 4 Binding Protein, Adrenal 4-Binding Protein, Nuclear Receptor AdBP4, Steroidogenic Factor-1.
