Mayer’s hematoxylin is suitable for visualization of nuclei in tissue sections and cell preparations. This reagent does not contain alcohol and is suitable for use with all chromogens commonly used in immunohistochemical (IHC) applications. It may also be used for routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining. Hematoxylin solutions contain hematein and a metal mordant. Modified Mayer’s Hematoxylin is a progressive stain which does not require acid wash after the hematoxylin step. Slides are left in Hematoxylin solution for 2-5 minutes to stain the nuclei. After staining, tissues require bluing with running tap water or ammonia solution.
